West 4th Street Center

The West 4th Street Center provides child care and preschool services for infants and preschool-aged children up to 5 years of age. The center is licensed for 70 children and is located in First Congregational Church in Waterloo. The center has a “4 star” quality rating through Iowa’s quality rating system. Children are enrolled into classrooms based upon their age and developmental readiness. Preschool classrooms are taught by teachers having either BA or AA degrees in Early Childhood Education.

All staff receive background safety and finger print checks through the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation and the F.B.I. Alls staff are certified in Pediatric and Adult First Aid, CPR and AED, and receive a minimum of six hours of staff development and training.

The West 4th Street Center works in partnership with the Waterloo Community School to provide preschool services through Iowa’s Voluntary Preschool Program. Under this program free preschool services to any child in Iowa who is four years of age by September 15th of the school year. Participating preschool classrooms in this program meet Iowa Quality Preschool Program standards.

The center participates in the Child Care and Adult Food Program. Under this program all meals and snacks served to your child comply with USDA nutritional guidelines and recommendations.

The center is inspected by the Department of Human Services, the Department of Education, Waterloo Fire Department and the Black Hawk County Health Department to ensure our compliance with state licensing, fire and safety, and health codes and requirements.
